Middle School session:     July 14-16, 2008

Presented by the Jackson Hole Music Experience

Registration is underway!!!

Welcome to Jackson Hole Rock&Roll Camp!  This unique clinic allows students to develop their individual skills in the context of a real rock band, rehearsing and performing with other student musicians and faculty professionals.  Rock&Roll Camp will be chock full of intense instruction, practical playing experience, and loads of fun!

Musicians in this camp will include drummers, bassists, guitar players, vocalists, horn players, and others.  Potential students must be at least going into the 6th grade in the fall of 2008, and they must have been studying their instrument for a minimum of one year.

The faculty at Rock&Roll Camp includes Jackson Hole’s most experienced professional musicians: Andy Calder (bass), Ed Domer (drums and percussion), Jeff Eidemiller (guitar), plus numerous other local and regional rock and roll veterans!  Past Rock and Roll Camp instructors and clinicians have included saxophonist David Halliday (Galactic), bassists Steve Bailey (Lynyrd Skynyrd, Dizzy Gillespie) and Ariane Cap (Tempest), guitarists Ross Martin (The Motet, Drew Emmitt Band) and Brian Jordan (Lauryn Hill, Karl Denson's Tiny Universe), drummers Simon Kirke (Bad Company, Free) and Stephen Perkins (Jane's Addiction, Porno For Pyros), just to name a few.

Each instructor at Rock & Roll Camp has an advanced knowledge of harmony and music theory, although the emphasis of Rock&Roll Camp is more practical than formal.

Some of the topics covered at Rock & Roll Camp include basic rhythm playing, holding a groove, use of dynamics, use of various “effects,” soloing ideas, songwriting, recording, using a PA system, relying on stage monitors, and learning how to “jam” with others.  The overall goal is to help young players become proficient at playing in a band.  In one important respect, music is similar to any other activity: the better you are at it, the more fun it is!  Rock& Roll Camp aims to raise each student’s level to the point that they can comfortably play with others.
